Welcome to the Information Page for the 2014 Midwest Morris Ale

Oak Apple Morris is proud to present the 34th Annual Midwest Morris Ale in the Madison, Wisconsin on Memorial weekend, May 23-26, 2014 at the scenic Bethel Horizons Camp and Retreat Center.

Outline:

We have a projected attendance of 190 which is a good size for the camp. The Ale will follow the usual pattern for Madison Ales:

Friday: arrive at Bethel Horizons. A light supper will be available through the evening and there will be Mass Dance practice around 9:00 p.m.

Saturday: bus into Madison after breakfast for dancing at the Farmers' Market in the Capitol Square. Lunch at the Avenue Bar followed by dancing somewhere on the way back to camp. After dinner there will be a contra dance, English dancing, singing, and morris.

Sunday: workshops after breakfast; lunch at camp; bus tours to nearby towns such as Mineral Point, Mt. Horeb, and Spring Green; and mass dancing at Governor Dodge State Park. After dinner there will be skit night and more morris.

Monday: breakfast and depart.

The nearest train stations are Milwaukee and Chicago with bus services to Madison. There is a whistle stop at Columbus which notionally serves Madison but there is no public transport to Madison.

The nearest airport is Dane County Regional Airport in Madison. There is bus service between Madison and Milwaukee and both O'Hare and Midway in Chicago.

If you do not rent a car we will endeavor to arrange shuttles if you reveal your travel plans on the registration form. Note that it is a one hour drive from Madison to the camp so those that arrive late on Friday will be put up overnight in Madison and join the Ale in progress on Saturday.

Cost and Housing
(note that the costs are estimates and not yet final):

The basic fee covers camping and all meals. In addition to the traditional tenting option, there are three levels of indoor housing are available at an extra cost: cabin $35; barn retreat center $60; prairie retreat center (without bed linens) $90, prairie retreat center (with bed linens) $100. These options are described in more detail on the "lodging info" page. If you are in need of financial assistance, please check out the Scholarship tab at the top of the page. The MWMA has a scholarship fund specifically for the purpose of helping people attend the Ales.

Buses:

There is no longer a lower age limit for travel on the school buses so you do not need to drive yourself on the tours unless you wish to.
